Building Canvas Stretchers

Building Canvas Stretchers

Building canvas stretchers was far more time consuming and difficult than I had anticipated. It is very lucky that I ended up starting the build a day sooner than I had initially planned in my action plan. There were many more steps involved than I realized: building layers, plenty of hammering, filling cracks, sanding, sawing, etc. Overall it was great for me to learn how to produce the stretchers from start to finish. It took me 3 full days in the 3D workshop to build the stretchers. My advice to myself in the future would be to be more careful with measurements. I mis-measured  some of the wood and ended up creating more work for myself. I built two layers  of stretch bars, one for structure and support of the canvas, and the other layered on top with a rounded edge to allow the canvas to lay over the stretcher neatly and prevent cracking(shown below).
