Henry Hudson - Hannah Barry Gallery Exhibition

Henry Hudson

"Nothing Sticks to Nothing"

Hannah Barry Gallery Exhibition

Henry Hudson is famous for his work on polished plasticine combined with colored pigments. This is his main favored painterly medium, and has become his signature technique. His paintings are large scale and are a real experience within the space, which has been decorated to compliment the paintings. The floor has been painted in great swirls of color mirroring his paintings on the wall. This added to the overall impact of the exhibit for me. The paintings were wrought with extreme detail, but seemed to feature softer edges than some of his previous works which I am familiar with.

My favorite piece appears to feature a veil-like pink curtain over half of the painting, which challenges the viewers perception within the same piece of work. The real beauty in the pieces lie within the richness in texture applied to each work. The inherent pathways within the paintings are mirrored in the patterns on the floor, making you feel as though you are experiencing within the paintings, giving the exhibit a multi-dimensional feel.
