Jackson Pollock - Whitechapel Gallery Exhibition

Jackson Pollock

"Staging Jackson Pollock"

Whitechapel Gallery

60 years later after Pollock's first exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery, Whitechapel has brought correspondence and other material out of the archives, including drawings and photographs of the original exhibition designed by the British modernist architect Trevor Dannatt, displayed alongside Pollock’s ‘Summertime: No 9A’ (below). The painting itself to me is full of freedom with its use of sharp color and dynamic lines splattered and dripped about.

While I can respect this work of art, it is not my favorite of his. I prefer his earlier works featuring more deliberate line work (such as the one below). The reason for this is that I feel there is a more narrative quality to these works which I find more interesting.

It was interesting to see the space that had been designed for the original exhibition, it seemed as though it was designed to be a wholly immersive experience (Below).
