Sketchbook Experimentation - Collage
Sketchbook Experimentations in Collage
I wanted to begin breaking down more complex forms by making some quick collages. I like to incorporate both architectural elements alongside figures within my collages, I try to break them down into less recognizable forms, transforming them from their original structures. I also try to find patterns and texture within other imagery to transform.
I think collage can be an extremely helpful way to explore color and form. I intentionally used the brown paper bag as a background which i think added a natural and interesting texture to the finished pieces. I like the natural creases in the background, it makes me think I could eventually experiment with textures like this in canvas.
I really like this particular shade of orange, paired with the brown bag and the deeper blacks. I could see myself carrying these forward in future paintings. I like the combination of sharp right angles and corners with rounded softer shapes. I intentionally let the folded pit of newspaper come loose to add texture and more dimension to the overall piece which I think could be interesting conceptually to explore further.
