Collage / Transcription Painting
There are elements of this collage that I really like, mainly in the structure of the shapes created. What I would do differently if I could, is leave all of the background light, allowing the shapes to float on the page, without trying to fill the space with all the grey and charcoal.
Rather than to closely try and mimic the collage, as I have done in some of my other collage painting transcriptions, I really wanted to focus only on extracting the shapes here. This is what I find most successful about this piece. The shapes are intriguing, and have a sense of dream and place. This is the composition that I will take forward into my FMP painting #4, (in hopes to replace #3). Again I should have let the shapes float on the page, rather than surround them here, but I do like the purple/grey I used for this in conjunction with the golden colors.
