Collage and Transcription Painting
With this bit of research I am simply continuing my exploration of shapes and spaces, bringing in humorous elements to my collage, and breaking these shapes down further into simplified shapes in my paintings. I still do not feel I have created something I want to carry into an FMP painting, and so I intend to keep experimenting in my sketchbook until I do.
I like the sense of movement in this piece. There seems to be a circular flow of direction which I think guides the eye around the space. This is helped by some of the painting I have done on top of the piece. My favorite aspects are the funny, even awkward little bits like the boxing arm coming off the right hand side, and the faces hidden within the space. The colors here I like and could definitely work with in future works, particularly the tones within the greens, alongside the oranges/ reds.
I like the shapes here in this painted piece. I followed the collage closely which I think worked well in certain areas. What I would change is that I could have maybe approached this painting with a lighter touch (smaller brush) in painting the black outlines of the shapes. I think this would have left a more intricate feel to the painting.
