Collage and Transcribed Painting from Collage

There is meant to be an element of humor in this collage. The shapes cut from a woman's face are meant to be silly, and even confusing. To mirror this fuzziness and confusion, I wanted the rest of the collage to feel mysterious. A light and telephone post turned sideways, etc. I think I was able to achieve some depth with the hallway. I was attempting to create a layered and textured feel to this piece so that one had the sense that they were looking upon different levels/ heights/ depths. I like the colors here, they remind me of what I was trying (but failed) to achieve in my FMP painting #3.

The painting below is a loose transcription of the above collage. My aim was to break down the shapes and focus on composition here. I think there are some interesting/successful elements particularly in the top half of the painting, however I think the bottom half loses itself a bit, some of the shapes became too  redundant. I do not like the curve of the bottom line. I do find the colors successful here, and would think to use them in the future. I think overall this painting is merely an exercise, and is interesting along side its corresponding collage, but should not stand alone.
