Revisiting Old Collages

I decided to revisit some old collages I had made as a set earlier on in the year for a christmas project. I really like the break up of space in these pieces, and the combination of elements used. I combined both interior design photography, with graphic drawing, plain color, and organic texture. I found all of these particularly successful together in their simplicity. The colors have a retro-nostalgic feel to them which I enjoy, but they still feel fresh and modern with the distribution of space. When I ha initially made these, they had been inspired by a dream I'd had, and so for this reason I thought this could fit in with the theme perfectly for my final painting of the project.

I think the use of wood and fabric work nicely here to bring a variety of textural components to the piece.

The old couch adds an element of humor and shape here , while the division of space becomes the strength of this piece.

I really like the graphic elements of this collage, broken up and pieced together. I think it would be interesting to try and carry this composition into a large painting. The organic plant textures in the background are a standout feature here as they add depth to the imagery. I have decided I will try and transcribe this collage into a painting for my final piece. Although it is not my favorite of the three collages, there are elements in the shape and composition I feel most excited about exploring in painting, particularly the figuration.
