Wes Anderson Imagery

Wes Anderson

Wes Anderson is another director with a surrealist approach to the style in his films. What I love about his work is the attention to detail, use of color, and some of the flattened imagery. I like to pay attention to his use of division of space. I've been watching his films recently and found his use of color to be particularly inspiring and well executed. His work has a very quirky and recognizable nature to it with dreamlike qualities in the settings. You can never quite place where his films are meant to be set, as though they are in made up places.

I particularly like the use of orange and the division of space in these images. The second image is particularly interesting as its divided into many rectangular segments, the middle one leading into patterns on the floor and more doorways, framed by the inside of a cupboard and the main figure.

I find it interesting how he uses bodies to break up his imagery, almost as if they are becoming one with the scenery.

I think his use of color is brilliant, the way he uses his colors in a repetitive way gives a highly stylized appearance. He often seems to use warm colors, offset by bright shades of their complimentary colors in small detail, like the first photo above where much of the photo is dominated by warm orange and tangerine, offset by the elect blue rails running around the pool.
