John Bellany and Alan Davie - Newport Street Gallery Exhibition

"Cradle of Magic"
Newport Street Gallery
John Bellany
Between the two works, John Bellany's was my favorite. I really enjoyed his use of texture, color, and shadow and found his figurative content interesting. There is a bizarre feel to much of his work, as if everything you are looking odd or strange, but only ever so slightly. His works impart elements of despair and even violence and explore themes of mortality.
I think Bellany accomplishes real depth in color within his shadows and highlight.
Alan Davie
I found Alan Davie's work to be interesting in the way he explored forms and geometric shapes. The way he would piece shapes together allowing them to relate with one another was interesting and much of the work appears to be symbolic in some way.
I found his line work to be interesting, a strong element of drawing seemed to come through.
