Kathryn Macnaughton
Kathryn Macnaughton
I recently discovered Kathryn Macnaughton's work and felt instantly drawn towards it. Macnaughton's paintings feature over-simplified figurative shapes, divided amongst abstracted backgrounds. I love these combinations of hers, they are compositionally interesting and fresh. Mcnaughton begins her process by creating digital compositions that she later transcribes carefully into paintings with acrylic. This imparts her paintings with a very graphic, hard edge, and contemporary feel. She is great at creating illusions of depth through her arrangements of color and in some cases, transparent layers. I feel very inspired by her use of color, there is a richness and air of sophistication that comes through in her choices here.
