Pablo Picasso - Collage
Pablo Picasso
Collage Work
The first collage (below) depicts a series of objects and paper fragments arranged close together on a table, the oval edge of the table has been loosely drawn in the lower right hand corner. There are abstracted forms of a guitar, glass and bottle of wine in white, grey and black paper and they are juxtaposed with drawn lines, suggesting other features of each object’s shape. I love the use of line work here to connect some of the abstracted shapes, I feel this pulls the composition together well. I also like the use of newspaper/ mixed media as these components bring texture and hard edges to the piece.
The more I look at other people's collage work, the more ideas I get about variety of materials and how to connect them together.
I love the simplicity in Picasso's shapes, and the deformity and their structures. The colors are simple and great, very different than anything I would think to use, which I think is interesting. Like Braque, Picasso is able to depart from reality in his work, which I think makes the pieces all the more intriguing.
