Collage

I found these collages to be a successful mix of patterns and colors. I like the structure of the first one of the two, looking at all of the shapes to make up one whole. While I like the colors of the first collage, particularly the deeper yellows with hard black and a green/grey backdrop, the second collage is the more successful of the two. The reason for this is that I enjoy the elements of abstracted body incorporated into the piece. I think it is interesting to use parts of the body, transform them so they are nearly unrecognizable and use them to build a structure. I also like the detail in the charcoal drawing and painting, as I think it creates space between the collage and its background that becomes a shape to consider itself.
